It seems to be the case. He’s a gazillionaire, he’s a 3rd term mayor of New York (NYC law limited mayors to two terms. He amended them), and now, he’s coordinating an initiative between the city and Columbia University to create a new centre for data science and engineering:
The agreement includes the creation of 44,000 square feet of new applied science and engineering space on Columbia’s campus by 2016 and the addition of 75 new faculty over the next decade and a half. The focus of the new institute will be on advances in the data sciences, attracting high-caliber faculty in specific fields of study, and expanding Columbia’s research capabilities and funding, and building upon the school’s recent successes in engineering
Creating 75 new faculty positions in applied science and statistics over the next decade in NYC? Bravo!
